Patton School crossing guard
Mary Leona Camp Filby, 77, of Washington, died Monday, July 12, 2004, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington.
She was born December 11, 1926, in Crothers Station (Taylorstown), a daughter of Charles R. and Thelma Mildred Newell Camp.
Mrs. Filby attended Trinity High School and was Protestant.
She was employed by Trinity Area School District for 25 years as a crossing guard at Patton School and was employed at Vance's Greenhouse.
Mrs. Filby was a life and charter member of Ladies Auxiliary of South Strabane Fire Station 2, a member of Lagonda Homemakers Club and a life member of Good Sams Camping Club.
She enjoyed plastic canvas needlework.
On January 23, 1943, she married James Willis (Dick) Filby Sr., who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, James W. Jr. of Houston and Floyd E. Filby of Waynesburg; a daughter, Mary Lee Quinn of Washington; six grandchildren, Christopher W. Quinn, Michael W. Quinn Jr., Helen I. Beels, James John and John Herbert Filby and Donna Jean Spence; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Charles Rodney Camp; and two sisters, Dorothy Mae and Margaret L. Camp.
FILBY - Friends of Mary Leona Camp Filby of Washington, who died Monday, July 12, 2004, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 15, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
