Hickory homemaker enjoyed crossword puzzles.
Mary Virginia Walters, 87, of Hickory, died at 9:55 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2007, in her home, following a six-month illness.
She was born May 22, 1919, in Washington, a daughter of Charles and Minnie Kelley Clemens.
A homemaker, Mrs. Walters enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing cards.
Her first husband, Henry Clemens, died in 1942.
In 1950, she married Paul Walters, who died in 1988.
Surviving are three sons, James Clemens Sr. of Hickory, Jack Clemens of Rochester and Charles Walters of Washington; two sisters, Peg Grabski of Hickory and Clara Goughenour of South View; five grandchildren, James Clemens Jr., Christopher Clemens, Patrick and Kelly Clemens and Sean Walters; and five great-grandchildren, CiCi, Taylor, Candice, Samantha and Haleigh Clemens.
Deceased are a brother, Russell Clemens; and three sisters, Helen Cooke, Betty Fillaro and Beaulah Allen.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, with the Rev. Douglas Reinard officiating. Burial will follow in North Buffalo Church Cemetery.
