Avella homemaker and farmer
Thelma Dean Miller Smith, 90, of Avella, died Friday, January 31, 2003, in her home, following a 51Ú2-year illness.
She was born December 16, 1912, in West Alexander, a daughter of Edgar R. and Hazel D. McVay.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and self-employed farmer throughout her life.
She was a graduate of McMillan School, and attended both Dutch Fork Christian and West Middletown Christian churches.
In June 1933, she married Curtis Smith, who died November 29, 1980.
Surviving are three sons, Curtis G. Smith of Warren, Ohio, Daniel P. Smith of Bradville, Tenn., and David G. Smith of Avella, with whom she made her home; two brothers, Edgar Miller of Washington and James Miller of Claysville; two sisters, Opal Smith of Wheeling, W.Va., and Hazel Fulks of Ukiah, Calif.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, James A. Smith; a sister, Pearl Miller; and a brother, Raymond Miller.
No public visitation will be held. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in West Alexander Cemetery. William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., Washington, is in charge of arrangements.
