Lester E. "Mike" Dean, 82, of Washington, died Thursday, January 16, 2003, in Washington Hospital, following a year and a half illness.
He was born April 6, 1920, in Washington, a son of Charles H. and Deborah Roach Dean.
Mr. Dean attended Trinity High School and first worked at Hazel Atlas Plant 1 as a machine operator.
He last worked for more than 22 years as a saw operator for Ryan Homes in Eighty Four, where he received the Manufacturing Merit Award in 1980.
Mr. Dean was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He attended Mt. Herman Baptist Church.
On July 7, 1940, he married Goldie Gladys Polan, who died May 27, 1987.
Surviving are three daughters, Avis June Grimm of North Ridgeville, Ohio, Irene Ross of Lone Pine and Diana Hollars of Avon, Ohio; a brother, Glenn Dean of Washington; a sister, Priscilla Zipko of Amity; 22 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two daughters, Frances Roupe and Bettie Horner; a stepdaughter, Helen Phillips; a stepson, James Phillips; a stepbrother, Harold "Ted" Roche; five brothers, Charles, Joseph, John, Donald "Boone" and Gerald Dean; and a grandson, Floyd Richard Grimm Jr.
DEAN - Friends of Lester E. "Mike" Dean of Washington, who died Thursday, January 16, 2003, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 21, with Pastor David Falvo officiating. Interment will be in Washington Cemetery.
