Jack Porter Edmonds

Jack Porter Edmonds, 89, of Eighty-Four, died Monday, November 22, 2004, in the Donnell House following a lengthy illness. He was born in St. Mary's, West Virginia, on December 19, 1914, a son of Elmer and Bessie VanDetta Hanes Edmonds. He served in the United States Marine Corps, 1sr Marine Division , World War II, in the South Pacific and Northern China, having received the World War II Victory Medal and a Presidential Unit Citation for involvement in Okinawa. He was a lifetime member of the First Marine Division Association, and the China Marine Organization, American Legion Post # 175, Washington. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Mr. Edmonds worked as a mould maker at Kelley Industries for more than thirty five years and later at Washington Mould and then at Penn Mould prior to retirement as a master mould maker. He was known throughout the area as a hand crafter of model and remote control aircraft. Additionally, he was a life member of the American Flint Glass Workers. On March 20, 1937, he married Martha Jeanette Pilgun who died on August 22, 1996. He is survived by five nephews, Jack W. Pilgun II, Richard Pilgun, Charles Schaub, Tom Edmonds, and Joe Edmonds; two nieces, Mary M. Kiger and Carol J. Daniels. Preceding him in death are a sister, Garnet Rosalie Schaub and a brother Elmer J. Edmonds, as well as several nieces and nephews. At the request of the deceased, no public visitation will be held. Services will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2004, at 3:00 pm in the Chapel Mausoleum at Washington Cemetery. Full Military Honors by Edwin Scott Linton Post # 175 of the American Legion. Mr. Edmonds requested any memorial donations be made to; Angel Ridge Animal Shelter, 390 Old Hickory Ridge Road, Washington, PA 15301.
