James T. Bell, 81, of Washington, died Wednesday, December 12, 2007, in the Washington County Health Center, following a one-year illness.
He was born July 22, 1926, in Washington County, a son of Frank and Fannie Ayres Bell.
Mr. Bell worked as a coal miner in Marianna for 14 years and in the big finish department at McGraw-Edison for 14 years.
He loved nature and enjoyed hunting and gardening.
Mr. Bell was a member of Houston American Legion.
During World War II, he served in the Army with the 60th Infantry Regiment. Mr. Bell saw action in Central Europe and Rhineland and was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Army Occupation Medal. He was honorably discharged on August 17, 1946, as a Technician-5th grade.
Mr. Bell was very proud of his military service.
He was Presbyterian.
On April 30, 1949, he married Dolores Bazzoli, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, James T. Bell, Jr. of Canonsburg; two daughters, Lynn B. Clark of Enola and Laura J. Bell of Washington; two brothers, Frank �Pete� Bell of Houston and Don Bell of Scenery Hill; five sisters, Shirley Bell, Emma Jane Hnat, Katherine Lazorchak, and Thelma Balsama, all of Houston, and Alice Ducsay of Cecil; and four grandchildren, Matthew Bell, Bryan Bell, Aubrey Clark and Mackenzie Clark.
Deceased are several brothers and sisters.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2007, with Pastor Ed Charlton officiating. Private burial in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies will be held at a later date.
