WWII veteran was retired electrician
Joseph Lewis Mast, 86, of Washington, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, in his home. He had been in declining health the last few years.
He was born August 14, 1917, in Washington, a son of Elmer and Gertrude Galbreath Mast.
Mr. Mast was Protestant.
During World War II, he served in the Eighth Air Force Unit, 751 Squadron, 457 Bombing Group and flew 25 combat missions over France and Germany as a radio operator in a B-17. He was awarded numerous awards and medals during his military career.
He was a retired as an electrician for IBEW 5.
Mr. Mast was a member of BPOE 776 and Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175, where he played on the dartball team.
Surviving are a son, Richard Lewis Mast of Washington; two daughters, Marlene Polen of Port Angeles, Wash., and Carole E. Malone of Washington; eight grandchildren, Laurie Ann Polen, Stephanie L. Ames, Michelle L. Lober, Kevin G. and Mark A. Malone, Richard L. Jr. and Robyn R. Mast and Rhonda E. Dalton; and eight great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Tammy Mast; three sisters, Katherine and Thelma Booth and Kathleen Ullom; and a brother, Robert Mast.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation or services. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Donations may be made to American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
