WWII vet worked for Pittsburgh Railways and McGraw Edison.
Robert C. Schwenger, 85, of Canonsburg, formerly of Bethel Park, died at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2004, in Washington Hospital, following a two-year illness. He was born May 29, 1919, in Carrick, a son of Clarence and Emma Marie Ebeck Schwenger. Mr. Schwenger was a graduate of Bethel High School. He was Catholic. He had been employed as a streetcar operator for Pittsburgh Railways and McGraw Edison, Canonsburg. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces in the European Theater during World War II and was awarded the European/African/Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He married twice. His first wife, Virginia F. Ulmer Schwenger, is deceased. On May 12, 1999, he married Melda Cave McDonald, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Robert T. Schwenger of Wapakoneta, Ohio; a stepson, Larry Eugene McDonald of Cecil; three stepdaughters, Joyce Ann Fink and Karen Lynn O'Hare, both of Canonsburg, and Sandra Kay Costello of Washington; two grandchildren, Robert and Rebecca; six stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-granddaughters. Deceased are two stepgrandchildren, Jeffrey O'Hare and Jeremy Fink.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where a blessing service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, November 5, with Father Phillip Przybyla officiating. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by South Hills Veterans Honor Guard.
