Mary J. Kelley, 67, of Washington, formerly of Colorado Springs, Colorado, died Tuesday, November 16, 2004, in the Washington Hospital following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Washington on November 13, 1937, a daughter of the late Dorwin and Ada Margaret Lafferty Roberts.
Mrs. Kelley was a graduate of Claysville High School and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Washington.
Prior to returning to Washington, she had lived thirty years in Colorado Springs and had worked as a professional driver for Grey Line Tours as a Limo Driver. While in Colorado, she had been an active volunteer for various non-profit organizations. She enjoyed genealogy and quilting, was a member of the D.A.R. National Pike Chapter as well as American Legion Post # 175 Ladies Auxiliary. Here in Washington, she was known for years as having been the first female Taxi driver.
On March 17, 1954, she married James F. Kelley who survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Peggy L. Kelley of Security, Colorado, Cheryl A. Kelly of Colorado Springs, Donna L. Rogan Kelley and Mary J. Miller Kelley, both of Washington; a sister, Bonnie S. Gallegos of Boise, Idaho; six grandchildren, Mary Mosely, Jeremy Moore, James W. and Karen L. Havener, Shannon Sandoval, and Shaun P. Rogan; and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are a grandson, John F. Rogan II and a brother, George A. Jackson.
Friends of Mary J. Kelley, 67, of Washington, who died Tuesday, November 16, 2004, will be received from 7 to 9 pm Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Thursday in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 19, 2004, at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Claysville Cemetery.
