Clarence Russell Conkle, 99, of Washington, formerly of Duncan Avenue, died Wednesday, November 24, 2004, in the Washington Hospital. He was born in West Bethlehem Township on October 26, 1905, a son of Samuel and Ell Dora Miller Conkle.
Mr. Conkle had first worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Highways for 22 years as an Equipment Operator and later for Trumbell Construction Company for 27 years until retiring in 1972. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Washington. He enjoyed lawn work.
On August 7, 1928, in Wellsburg, West Virginia, he married Martha Claire Manon who died on August 31, 1991.
Surviving are a grandson, James Donovan Conkle and his wife Lauren S., of Washington; a granddaughter, Sherry Ann Throckmorton Jemley and her husband Samuel L., of Washington; three great grandchildren, Donald Shawn and Michael James Throckmorton, James David Conkle; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are a son, James Duane Conkle; three sisters, Birdie Closser, Almeda Bebout, and Goldie Lott.
Friends of Clarence Russell Conkle, 99, of Washington, formerly of Duncan Avenue, who died Wednesday, November 24, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Friday in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, where services will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2004, at 1:30 pm, Rev. Dr. Kenneth N. Schott officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
