Dessie Irene (Jackie) Yeager, 86, of Washington died Sunday, December 9, 2007, at Washington Hospital surrounded by her family. She had been in declining health.
She was born April 18, 1921, in Washington, PA, a daughter of the late William and Hannah Gatts Rodgers. She was Protestant.
During World War II, while her husband, Albert, was serving in the U. S. Navy, she worked for the U. S. Navy Department, Mare Island, California and the U. S. Post Office in San Francisco, California.
Prior to her retirement in 1981, she was a Group Leader at RCA, Meadowlands, for 31 years. She had a great love for gardening, designing her own yard, which was admired by many. She loved to share her plants, especially her hostas, with all her friends and neighbors. She will be remembered every spring as they begin to sprout and blossom throughout the summer.
Her family and friends will miss her delicious cookies and candy which she baked and gave lovingly.
She was honored to have been selected to open one of the charitable nights at the Meadows Casino in June, 2007.
She will be deeply missed by her family, especially her daughter, Carole, and grandson, Scott, and all her friends, but she will live in their hearts forever.
On October 6, 1942, she married Albert L. Yeager, who died on March 28, 2005. They celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Surviving are her daughter, Carole Yeager Beck, who resided with her mother since 2005, and her grandson, Scott E. Novak, of Washington. Also surviving are her sister, Gladys Skariot, of Washington and her brother, Archie (Salome) Rodgers, of Sun Lakes, Arizona, and grandchildren, Charles Yeager and Beth Ann Isenberg, 4 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her husband, are her son, James W. (Jack) Yeager; grandson, William (Billy) Yeager; three brothers, Robert, Clarence and John Rodgers; and five sisters, Myrtle Rodgers, Adella Rodgers, Goldie Dempster, Olive Obney and Dorothy Virtue.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 P. M. on Tuesday, December 11, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Wednesday, December 12 at William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 A. M. on Thursday, December 13, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Austin A. Sauer Memorial Foundation, 3211 Hampton Oaks Drive, Allison Park, PA 15101.
