David Kenneth Briggs, 90, of Washington, died at 10:15 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2005, in Washington County Health Center, Washington, following a four-year illness. He was born March 23, 1915, in Hickory, a son of Andrew Cummins and Elizabeth Mae Durbin Briggs. Mr. Briggs worked for Penn Manufacturing as a steam hammer operator for 35 years. He was a farmer, hauled cattle for 20 years and was an avid horseman and trainer. Mr. Briggs was a member of Pennsylvania Pony Pulling Association, Old National Pike Festival and Washington County Fair Board. On March 26, 1938, he married Harriet (Mabel) Shrontz, who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Kenneth Alvin (Mary Lou) Briggs of Washington, Dr. David Lawrence (Elaine) Briggs of Lincoln, Mass., Lloyd Darcie (Wilma) Briggs of Washington and Hugh Rodney (Kathy) Briggs of Washington; a daughter, Dr. Sandra (Martin) McCann, who is a missionary in Tanzania; a sister, Robert Alrutz of Washington; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Deceased are three sisters, Ethel Null, Georgie Powell and Dorothy Johnson.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, with the Rev. Barry Sweet officiating.
