Reed Eugene Hickman

Reed Eugene Hickman, 78, of Prosperity, died Sunday, October 24, 2004, in the Donnell House following a lengthy illness. He was born in Dunn Station, Washington County, on September 15, 1926, a son of Stephen and Margaret Penn Hickman. He was a 1944 graduate of Morris Township High School, was a lifelong member of the Upper Ten Mile Presbyterian Church and had held numerous offices within the church. Mr. Hickman was a World War II Veteran having served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Ascella. He had worked for more than twenty-eight years for Bell Telephone as a motor vehicle supervisor. Additionally, he had been an active volunteer at both the Washington Hospital and Presbyterian Senior Care. He was a member of the cemetery board at Enon Cemetery. For more than fifty years he was a member of the Morris Township Volunteer Fire Department and most recently served as Treasurer. On November 29, 1947, he married Louise Ellen Sprowls who survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Dixie Hickman of Waynesboro, Debby Jo Shaner of Prosperity, Diane Hickman of Washington and Darla, wife of Scott Reese of Washington; two brothers, Donald Hickman of Claysville and Gerald Hickman of Washington; a sister Mary Jo Archer of Claysville; four grandchildren, Susan Meighen, Stephanie Cristini, Emily and Sara Reese; and three great-grandchildren, Seth and Lauren Meighen and Nathaniel Cristini. Preceding him in death are two brothers, Stephen and Vernon Hickman. Reed Eugene Hickman, 78, of Prosperity, who died Sunday, October 24, 2004, will be received from 7 to 9 pm Monday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Tuesday in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2004, at 1:00 pm, Rev.’s Larry Deemer and Louis Sprowls officiating. Burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations be made to; Morris Township Fire Department, P.O.
