Frances M. Evans, 79, of Washington, died Saturday, October 23, 2004, in the Washington County Health Center following a short illness. She was born in Washington on August 11, 1925, a daughter of Charles W. and Minnie Littell Higgins. Mrs. Evans was Methodist by faith. She had worked at Hazel Atlas # 2, Duncan Miller Glass, and Taggart Valley # 7 as a packer. She was a member of the American Legion Post # 175 Ladies Auxiliary.
Her first husband, Gerald Griffin was killed in World War II, her second husband, Earl Phillips died in 1954. She married William Andrew Evans on January 15, 1971 and he died on April 17, 1996.
Surviving are two sons, Earl D. Phillips of Washington, Daniel W. Phillips of Palm City, Florida ; a daughter, Darla Hennen of Winchester, Virginia; a sister Jean Colvin of Washington; eight grandchildren, Lori Rodewald,Jacob Rodewald, Douglas Earl Phillips, Scott Hennen, Stephanie, Theo R., Minnie, and Danielle Phillips; four great-grandchildren, Noah Hennen, Gary Hennen, Amel Marei and Dawson Marquis.
Preceding her in death are six brothers, Kermit, Vertis, Thomas, Charles, Harold, and Donald Higgins; and four sisters, Velma Clutter, Roma Higgins, Margaret Stafford, and Rose Blakeway.
Friends of Frances M. Evans, 79, of Washington, died Saturday, October 23, 2004, will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2004, with the Rev, Keith Lohr officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
