U.S. Navy vet worked for Jessop Steel.
George W. Loughman Sr., 78, of West Alexander, died at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2005, in Donnell House, Washington, following a lengthy illness. He was born June 22, 1926, in Waynesburg, a son of Harry and Mary Mitchell Loughman. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a gunner/seaman first class on the USS Craven in the South Pacific, receiving American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal. Mr. Loughman was employed as a steelworker/moulder in the electric furnace department of Jessop Steel for 37 years. He was a member of Washington Lodge 164 F&AM, WA Cha Gree Forest 149, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Coudersport Consistory, Waynesburg Moose Lodge and Taylorstown American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, farming and fishing. On October 21, 1947, he married Stella Novak, who survives. Also surviving are a son, George W. Loughman Jr. of West Alexander, who was married to the late Michelle D. Kopko; a sister, Marilyn Miller of Washington; and two grandsons, Joshua M. Loughman and Jason M. Loughman. Deceased are three sisters, Catherine Bruckner, Maxine Miles and Mildred Clemens.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Memorial services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home by Washington Lodge 164 F&AM. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Claysville American Legion, James R. Hunt, Post 639.
