Donnie Eugene Platt

Donnie Eugene Platt, 49, of Washington, died at 12:31 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2007, in the Emergency Department of the Washington Hospital. He was born November 14, 1957, in Orange, Texas, a son of the late Donald G. Platt and Dorothy E. Carpenter Platt Yater. Mr. Platt attended Trinity Schools. Before retiring in 1998, he worked as a nurse’s aid for 23 years at the Washington Hospital. Mr. Platt was a member of South Strabane Volunteer Fire Department, where he had served as captain for four years. He also was a member of Canton Township Volunteer Fire Department for 28 years. Mr. Platt enjoyed photography, fishing, hunting and pets, especially dogs, birds and fish. He especially enjoyed the outdoor pond at his home. On June 18, 1996, he married Helen Hupp, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Brandon Richard Platt and Joseph Timothy Lucas, both of Washington; a brother, Sam Yater; a sister, Sandra Thomas of Washington; four step-brothers, William, Bobby, Joseph and Michael Yater; four step-sisters, Mary Corbett, Betty Taberner, Theressa La Vere and Linda Molinaro; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Deceased are his step-father, Robert Yater; a step-sister, Debbie Hopkins; and his twin brother, who died at birth. Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2007, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
