Bernard O. Killen

Member of Avery U.M. Church was WWII veteran Bernard O. Killen, 86, of Prosperity, formerly of Washington, died at 11:42 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2004, in Donnell House, Washington, following a 11-month illness. He was born November 8, 1917, in Washington, a son of Harry Edward Sr. and Alma Robina Knowles Killen. Mr. Killen attended Washington High School and was a member of Avery United Methodist Church in Washington. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater, achieving the rank of corporal and qualifying as anti-aircraft gun captain. He received the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Killen enjoyed traveling, gardening and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On January 26, 1941, he married Bessie Hague Killen, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Kathleen Ann Black of North Strabane Township, Suzanne Killen Barrow of Washington and Rebecca Logue of Prosperity; two brothers, Warren Knowles Killen Sr. and Jack H. Killen, both of Washington; six grandchildren, Mark Edward Black Matthew Thomas and Michael Francis Barrow, Kathleen Sanders, and David James and Brian James Logue; four great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren. Deceased are two brothers, Harry Edward Killen Jr. and an infant brother; and two sisters, Edith Dorothy Wilkinson and Nellie Ruth Kiger. KILLEN - Friends of Bernard O. Killen of Prosperity, formerly of Washington, who died Sunday, May 2, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Addition visitation will be held from 1 until 2 p.m., the hour of services, Wednesday, May 5, in Avery United Methodist Church, Washington, with the Rev. Daniel Stinson officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Washington Hospital Hospice. Military rites will be accorded by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175.
