Albert Leroy Russell, 71, of Washington, died Sunday, April 20, 2008, in the Washington Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born September 2, 1936, in Cross Creek Township, a son of Albert William and Rose Elmira Florence Clemens Russell.
Mr. Russell was a graduate of Hickory High School.
He served in the United States Army from March 23, 1959, until his honorable discharge as a Specialist Fourth Class on April 2, 1962.
For 36 years, Mr. Russell worked as a heavy equipment operator for Black Top Paving Company.
He enjoyed motorcycles, hunting, fishing, music and playing the guitar.
Mr. Russell was a member of Moose #22, Slovak Club and Taylorstown Legion #907.
On December 29, 1962, he married Frances Kay Zediker, who died October 24, 2003.
Surviving are two sons, Roger Russell and Albert (Melisa) Russell, both of Avella; a daughter, Renee Russell of Washington; three brothers, Charles (Pam) Russell, Harold (Pam) Russell, both of Washington, and Howard (LuAnn) Russell of Canonsburg; four sisters, Clara Turk, Betty (Dave) Torboli, Lois (Bob) Weaver and Darlene (Wayne) Elliott, all of Washington; 16 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Sheila Cass; two grandchildren; a brother, Gaylord Russell; and a sister, Florence Sifert.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. , in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 24th, with Rev. John Mark Scott officiating. Burial will follow in North Buffalo Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
