Kenneth Harold Irwin

Kenneth Harold Irwin, 84, of Claysville, died Sunday, April 20, 2008, in his residence, following a two-year illness. He was born August 30, 1923, in Washington, a son of William H. and Elma Ann Sweitzer Irwin. Mr. Irwin worked at Universal Cyclops for 15 years and then as a mechanic at Joy Manufacturing, from where he retired. He enjoyed auto racing. During World War II, Mr. Irwin served in the United States Army. While stationed in Europe, he served as a machine gunner and earned the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on August 20, 1946. His wife, Nell Crawford Irwin, died in 1981. Surviving are five sons, Kenneth “Sonny” (Ip) Irwin of Florida, Ron Irwin (Gina Zelenka) of West Alexander, Rick Irwin (Nancy Donley) of Washington, Dan Irwin (Donna McCartney) of Claysville and Terry Irwin of Claysville; a step son, Ralph “Sonny” (Pat) Crawford, Jr., of Eighty-Four; a step daughter, Twila Cesaratto of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Lucille (Henry) McCartney and Vera (William) Anderson, both of Washington; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Deceased are a grandchild, Michele J. Irwin; and three brothers, William Ralph, James D. and Martin Glenn Irwin. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2008, with Rev. Floyd Marasco officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
