Charles Eugene Anderson, 80, of Washington, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008, in Presbyterian Senior Care, following a four-month illness.
He was born October 13, 1927, in Washington, a son of Earl Eugene and Evelyn Hopkins Anderson.
Mr. Anderson was a 1945 graduate of Washington High School, and from 1950 till 1952, served as a sergeant in the United States Army in Alaska.
He worked as a receiving clerk at Jessop Steel for 23 years, retiring in 1990.
Mr. Anderson was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society, Washington Senior Citizens Center and its singers and dancers group, and a lifetime member of BPOE #776. He was also a member and former chaplain of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion, where he also served on the firing squad.
On June 4, 1954, he married Dorothy Lucille Bedillion, who died June 25, 1992.
On May 16, 1998, he married Mary Evelyn Heffers Patten, who survives.
Also surviving are two children, Charles E. (Jackie) Anderson of Phoenix, New York, and Deborah (Russell) Knight of Washington; three step-children, Edwin A. Patten of Washington, John F. (Linda) Patten of Claysville, and Rosemary (Jim) Sickles of Washington; a sister, Martha Beatty of Washington; three grandchildren, Laurelle (David) Dicks, Sean (Asher) Knight and Peyton Anderson; four step-grandchildren, Skyler Patten, Ashley (Drew) Sworger, Meagan Sickles and Benjamin Sickles; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Dicks and Darren Knight; special sisters-in-law, Jean and Karen Bedillion; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a brother, Alfred A. Anderson.
Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 31st in St. Hilary Church, with Father Thomas D. O’Neil as celebrant. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion will hold services at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
