Retired Fort Cherry school teacher
Libera "Libby" Ferrari Swartz, 89, of Hickory, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington, following a lengthy illness.
She was born May 5, 1913, in Monongahela, a daughter of Humberto and Vita Maria Ferrari.
Mrs. Swartz was a graduate of Monongahela High School, attended University of Pittsburgh and was a graduate of California Teachers College.
She was a retired school teacher from Fort Cherry School District, McDonald.
Mrs. Swartz was a member of Hickory United Presbyterian Church, where she had formerly taught Sunday school.
She was a former member of Hickory Women's Club and Washington County Retired Teachers, as well as PSAR.
On December 2, 1940, she married Edwin Burns Swartz Jr., who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Dr. Anne Swartz of New York City, N.Y., and Carol Baxter of Charlotte, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Mark and Jeffrey Baxter.
Deceased are four brothers, Albert, Michael, Bruno and Robert Ferrari; and a sister, Norma Jean Williams.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of a memorial service Saturday, April 26, in Hickory United Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jay Smith and the Rev. Nat Roe officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Memorial Fund, Hickory United Presbyterian Church, 210 Main Street, Hickory, PA 15340 or Presbyterian Senior Care, 835 South Main Street, Washington, PA 15301.
