Irene Elizabeth Rankin

Retired nurse at Washington Hospital Irene Elizabeth Rankin, 82, of Washington, died Thursday, May 22, 2003, in Donnell House, Washington, following a brief illness. She was born March 9, 1921, in North Charleroi, a daughter of Lawrence and Florence Booth Wentzel. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Rankin worked as a registered nurse for more than 30 years at Washington Hospital. She was a member of Third United Presbyterian Church in Washington, where she served as a trustee. Mrs. Rankin enjoyed playing bridge, had been a member of Sew and Sew Club of Wolfdale and attended Washington Senior Citizens Center. On October 13, 1943, she married Dale Kenneth Rankin, who died May 9, 1977. Surviving are two sons, Randy Rankin of St. Louis, Mo., and Jeff Rankin of Cecil; two daughters, Carol Resek of Washington and Renee Scarborough of Chantilly, Va.; eight grandchildren, Christopher and Johnna Resek, Campbell, Alexander, Amelia and Julian Rankin and Aaron and Rachel Scarborough. Deceased are three brothers, Lawrence, Charles and Donald Wentzel. RANKIN - Friends of Irene Elizabeth Rankin of Washington, who died Thursday, May 22, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. There will be no visitation on Monday. Additional visitation will be held from noon until 1 p.m., the hour of service, Tuesday, May 27, in Third United Presbyterian Church, 22 Cortez Drive, Washington, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
