Vietnam vet worked at Washington Hospital.
James A. Ashmore, 57, of Washington, died at 11:17 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2005, in Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness. He was born December 23, 1947, in Washington, a son of Nellie G. Miller Ashmore of Washington and the late Kenneth Lorne Ashmore. Mr. Ashmore attended North Buffalo Presbyterian Church and was a former orderly at Washington Hospital. He was a graduate of McGuffey High School and West Virginia University, with a degree in biology. He served in the U.S. Army with the medics in Vietnam, received a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Combat Medical Badge and Sharpshooters Badge. Surviving, in addition to his mother, is a brother, Bruce and his wife, Carol Ashmore, of Washington; a sister, Wendy D. Ashmore of Washington; and a nephew, Michael Bonato.
Friends will be received by the family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 2, with the Rev. John Mark Scott officiating, followed by interment in North Buffalo Church Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted graveside by Claysville American Legion.
