Russell E. Sheets, 68, of McConnells Mills, died Thursday, January 3, 2008, in his residence, following a five-year illness.
He was born March 8, 1939, in Canonsburg, a son of Clyde Eugene and Clara Agnes Manes Sheets.
Mr. Sheets attended Chartiers-Houston High School, and, for the last ten years, installed furnaces.
He was a member of the Labor Temple in Canonsburg and enjoyed fixing small engines and repairing things.
He was Protestant by faith.
Mr. Sheets served in the Army from February 12, 1963, until his honorable discharge on February 11, 1965. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and Sharpshooters Badge. After his discharge, he served in the Army Reserves until 1969.
Surviving are two sisters, Shirley McDonald of Muse and Judy Cass of Canonsburg; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, Robert Sheets and Larry �Pete� Sheets; and a sister, Catherine Charlier.
Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2008, in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion. Arrangements are being handled by William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., Washington.
