James Anthony Rungo, 85, of Washington, died Thursday, May 17, 2007, in Donnell House, following a brief illness.
He was born March 15, 1922, in Washington, a son of Michael and Constance Amendola Rungo.
Mr. Rungo graduated from high school and Penn Commercial College.
On November 14, 1942, he entered the Army, serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater, as a Medical Technician, 4th Grade. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Operations Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and was Honorably Discharged on November 5, 1945.
Mr. Rungo owned Pioneer Fruit Market, along with his friend and partner, Mike Crunick, who is deceased. He also worked in the maintenance department at Chartiers Houston High School.
Mr. Rungo was a member of St. Hilary Church and enjoyed camping at Big Bear Lake.
On June 23, 1946, he married Elizabeth Ann Andy Rungo, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael (Beth) Rungo, of Phoenix, AZ., and James (Susan) Rungo, Jr., of Houston; two daughters, Linda Rocks, of Mesa, AZ., and Constance (Patrick) Bongiorni, of McDonald; four grandchildren, Justin (Julie) Bongiorni, Melinda (Tom) Henneberry, Casey Rungo, Shannon Rungo and three great grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Louis and Joseph Rungo; six sisters, Elizabeth Ruscello, Angeline DeFazio, Mary Curcio, Lena Rungo, Jean Castriota and Rose Morrow.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m., Sunday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 21, 2007 at St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, 320 Henderson Avenue. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens Mausoleum, McMurray. Military rites will be accorded by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 American Legion.
