William E. Jenkins

William E. Jenkins, 74, of Washington, died unexpectedly Tuesday, December 4, 2007, in his residence. He was born June 24, 1933, a son of Carl H. Jenkins, Sr. and Georgia McGary Jenkins. During the Korean War, Mr. Jenkins served in the Army as an infantry reconnaissance scout. He earned the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and was honorably discharged July 16, 1952, as a corporal. Mr. Jenkins previously worked for Cal Con Industries. He enjoyed watching football and NASCAR and spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Jenkins was a member of Friendship Community Church. He was the last of his immediate family. On October 4, 1951, he married Louise Pounds, who died November 28, 2007. Surviving are Carl (Renee) Jenkins and William (Dorothy) Jenkins; three daughters, Helen (Larry) Strawn, Debbie (Harry) Sampson, and Sandy (Keith) Freese, all of Washington; thirteen grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a brother, Carl H. Jenkins, Jr.; three sisters, Lilian Brown, Shirley Ann Jenkins and Tiny Salisbury; and two sons, Kenneth and Ricky Jenkins. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2007, with Rev. Rick Bruckner officiating. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
