Mechanic for Bethlehem Steel mines
Byron Alva Snyder, 67, of Kinston, N.C., died at 12:22 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2003, in Sunrise Hospital, Las Vegas, Nev.
He was born June 5, 1935, in Timblin, Jefferson, a son of Elmer and Rose Ann Rockwell Snyder.
Mr. Snyder was a 1954 graduate of Punxsutawney High School and a member of Apostolic Gospel Church.
He was a coal miner employed by Bethlehem Steel as a mechanic for 20 years and was a member of United Mine Workers Local 5.
Surviving are three sons, Thomas and Christopher Snyder, both of Claysville, and James Snyder of Avella; a daughter, Janice Christopher of Las Vegas; seven brothers, Kenneth of Erie, Daryl of Dearborn, Mich., Fred of Washington, Howard of Punxsutawney, Charles Roy of Ringgold, Ronald of Orlando, Fla., and Raymond Snyder of Aliquippa; two sisters, Naomi Geist of Erie and Olive Slee of Butler; and a granddaughter, Katlyn Snyder.
Deceased are a sister, Phyllis Smith; and two brothers, Norman and Earl Snyder.
SNYDER - Friends of Byron Alva Snyder of Kinston, N.C., who died Sunday, April 27, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 5, with the Rev. John Varner officiating. Interment will follow in West Middletown Cemetery.
