Billy Bob Grandel, 80, of Washington, died at 6:10 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2002, in Washington Hospital.
He was born July 9, 1921, in Scenery Hill, a son of Samuel and Jessie M. Patton Grandel.
Mr. Grandel was Episcopalian. He was a graduate of Beallsville High School and attended Washington & Jefferson College.
He was formerly employed at Duncan Miller Glass as a foreman, later worked at Brockway Glass and was last employed as an auto service department manager at Sears, from where he retired.
Mr. Grandel was a member of Washington Lodge 164, F&AM, and BPOE 776.
During World War II, he served in the Army Air Forces as a pilot with the First Ferrying Squadron 556 AAF Base Unit in Long Beach, Calif., ferrying airplanes to Africa and South America.
On July 5, 1943, he married Ruth E. Verno, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Ronald D. Grandel of Westfield, N.J., and Jerry L. Grandel of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four sisters, Evelyn Strawn of North Richmond Hill, Texas, Mae Taylor of South Charleston, W.Va., Martha Ames of San Diego, Calif., and Sarah (Sally) Hahn of Broadview Heights, Ohio; and a granddaughter, Kimberly A. Lerman.
Deceased are a sister, Helen Grandel; three brothers, Paul, Ira and Wayne Grandel; and four half brothers, A.M., Ralph, Harrison "Curly" and Dick Grandel.
