Raymond Miller Thomas, 68, of Washington, died at 8:30 a.m. Friday, November 5, 2004, in his home. He was born March 20, 1936, in Hickory, a son of Mary Edna Neal Thomas of Washington and the late Raymond H. Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a truck driver and worked part time for Rusty's Amoco. He attended Hickory High School and was a member of Crossroads Presbyterian Church. Mr. Thomas served eight years in the U.S. Army. He was trained as a paratrooper, and while stationed in Alaska helped test the Cold Bar diving uniform. He had an interest in military subjects and enjoyed building model cars and railroads. On June 27, 1958, he married Alice Ethel Kita, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Raymond S. Thomas of Canonsburg and Adam R. Thomas of Nineveh; three daughters, Gwendolyn Ann Dawkins of Ocala, Fla., Mary Alice Wojcuich of Washington and Betty S. Dawkins of High Springs, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Ann Ostovic and Betty Camden, both of Washington; and 13 grandchildren. A brother, Alvin Neil Thomas, is deceased.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 9, with the Rev. Barry Sweet officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Military honors will be accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 and American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
