Paul Edwin Weaver of Washington, formerly of Lagonda, 90, died Thursday, December 16, 2004 at Donnell House, following a brief illness.
Mr. Weaver was born July 2, 1914, in Scenery Hill, the son of Charles E. and Zoe Evans Weaver. He attended Scenery Hill Schools and was a graduate of Centerville High School. Mr. Weaver was a journeyman painter since 1939, retiring in 1979 from Joe Falvo Painting, where he was employed for 23 years. He also held various other jobs and grew up working on his father¹s farm. During World War II, Mr. Weaver was a Motor Machinist Mate, Second Class, aboard the minesweeper YMS-45, serving the U.S. Navy South Atlantic Fleet from February 1944 to Christmas Eve, 1945. On November 10, 1940, he married the former Dorothy Sarber, who survives. The couple raised three children: Marjorie Harrington, husband Tom; Richard Weaver, wife Dorcas; Lois Janovich, husband the late Alvin Janovich; all of Washington. He was Pap to nine grandchildren: Jeff, Tom, Mark and Scott Harrington; Leslie (Janovich) Stevens; Steve Janovich; Kristen (Janovich) Post; Rikki (Weaver) Piotrowski; and Gary Holliday. Mr. Weaver had 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Mr. Weaver was the last of his immediate family, preceded in death by three brothers: Henry, Donald and Fred Weaver; and one sister, Lois, who died in infancy. Mr. Weaver was a very active member of the Abundant Life Baptist Church, formerly Allison Avenue Baptist, for 58 years. Throughout his service to the church and to God, he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher, Superintendent and choir member, also serving on various church committees. Mr. Weaver was a member of the Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion and Washington Senior Citizens. He enjoyed playing dartball, pitching horseshoes and working outdoors. The master of crossword puzzles, math problems and jokes was also widely recognized as the ultimate role model. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Friends of Paul Edwin Weaver, 90, of Washington, formerly of Lagonda, who died Thursday, December 16, 2004, will be received from 7 to 9 pm Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Sunday in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave. Services will be held on Monday, December 20, 2004, at 2:00 pm in the Abundant Life Baptist Church, 269 Cameron Road, Washington, Rev. Rick Bruckner officiating. Burial will follow in Scenery Hill Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations be made to: Donnell House, Leet Street, Washington, PA 15301.
