Raymond Edward Yeager

Raymond E. Yeager, 83, of Washington, died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, May 7, 2005. He was born in Washington, on April 2, 1922, a son of Delbert R. and Cora Lou Shaw Yeager. Mr. Yeager was a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church. He had attended Lagonda Grammar School and Morris Township High School. He served in the United States Navy as a Boatswain’s Mate, 2nd class, in World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific. While aboard the S.S. Wade Hampton, in route to Murmansk, Russia, to deliver P.T. Boats, Tanks, and other war supplies, they took a torpedo hit and he was hospitalized for a period of time in Scotland. He was awarded the Victory Medal, American Campaign Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Yeager later worked more than 30 years at National Annealing Box as a welder-pressman. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 175, Washington, Washington County Cattleman’s Association, and enjoyed Coon and Fox hunting. On May 22, 1947, he married Doris Jean Sweitzer, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Raymond Harold Yeager and his wife Carolyn, of Carmel, Indiana, and Ronald Edward Yeager and his wife, Sharon, of Washington; a half brother, Walter Hatfield of Washington; two sisters, Shirley Fullerton of Glenn Burnie, Maryland, and Iverna L. Gowern and her husband Joe, of Canonsburg; six grandchildren, Sara, Christina, Lauren, Amanda, Jennifer, and Emily Yeager. Preceding him in death are two brothers, Albert and James Yeager; and a sister, Betty McMahon. Friends of Raymond E. Yeager, 83, of Washington, who died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, May 7, 2005, will be received on Tuesday from 2 to 9 pm in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, where services will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at 2:00 pm, Pastor Kevin Montgomery and Rev. Larry Wiltrout co-officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military Rites graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post # 175, American Legion.
