Mary G. Hammett, 82, of Washington, died Friday, March 28, 2008, in Canonsburg General Hospital, following a brief illness.
She was born April 24, 1925, in Donegal Township, a daughter of Mason and Ethel Craig Hewitt.
Mrs. Hammett attended McMillan and Coon Island schools, both in the Claysville area.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed playing cards, crossword puzzles, crafts and gardening.
On November 25, 1946, she married John M. Hammett, who died April 28, 1982.
Surviving are a son, Timothy J. Hammett, of Washington; two grandchildren, John Jason (Brandy) Hammett, of Waynesburg, and Jennifer Lynn Hammett, of Washington; a great granddaughter, Ryeleigh Zane Hammett, of Waynesburg; and a brother, Robert M. (Hazel) Hewitt, of Claysville.
Deceased, in addition to her husband, is her daughter-in-law, Barbara A. Hammett; two brothers, Melvin and Paul Hewitt; and two sisters, Mildred Spragg and Naomi (Toots) Miller.
Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2008, with the Rev. Rick Bruckner officiating. Interment will follow in Claysville Cemetery.
