Washington woman enjoyed baking and crocheting
Catherine Honora Popeck, 86, of Washington, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, in Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care, Washington, following a lengthy illness.
She was born October 25, 1916, in Wyano, a daughter of John and Honorata Osika Zastawniak.
Mrs. Popeck graduated from South Huntingdon High School and worked at Keystone Box Factory in Pittsburgh prior to her marriage.
She was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church in Washington and its Christian Mothers.
Mrs. Popeck loved to bake and crochet.
On February 18, 1939, in Washington, she married Stanley Edward Popeck, who died August 1, 1974.
Surviving are three sons, Stanley J. Popeck of Elko, Nev., Lawrence E. Popeck of Longwood, Fla., and Charles S. Popeck of Mesa, Ariz.; two daughters, Cecelia A. "Cookie" Kazakewicz of Washington and Eleanor L. Johnson of Canonsburg; 14 grandchildren, Mark Popeck, Catherine Kupec, Michael, Daniel and Ann Popeck, Valerie and Stephen Kazakewicz, Jennifer and Cathy Johnson, and Nicholas, Andrew, Hilary, Katherine and Stephen Popeck; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine Popeck of Washington and Rosalia Zastawniak of Wyano; a brother, Alfons Zastawniak of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a sister, Helen Wojtaszek; and a brother, Nicholas, who died at birth.
POPECK - Friends of Catherine Honora Popeck of Washington, who died Thursday, April 10, 2003, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 14, in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, Washington, with the Rev. Thomas D. O'Neil as celebrant. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery.
