In Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame
Steve John Olesky, 90, of Washington, died at 8:05 a.m. Thursday, April 1, 2004, in Washington County Health Center, Washington, following a six-week illness.
He was born September 6, 1913, in Novy Saoz, Poland, a son of Stanley and Katherine Klimek Olesky.
Mr. Olesky was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Washington and had been an usher for several years.
He was a 1934 graduate of Trinity High School and had attended Washington & Jefferson College. While at Trinity, he was a state wrestling champion from 1931 through 1934. He was a gold medal AMA national champion in wrestling and was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1989.
Mr. Olesky was employed in sales at Albert's Packing Co. for 35 years and Green Valley Packing for seven years.
He had formerly been employed at Lincoln Hill Coal Mine.
Mr. Olesky was a member of Polish Club and Alpine Club.
He enjoyed bowling and was a high-scoring bowler.
On July 26, 1941, he married Helen Ann Kurpiel, who died December 18, 1968.
Surviving are a son, James Olesky of Washington; two daughters, Barbara Dille of Prosperity and Judy Reese of Washington; two sisters, Helen Siedlak of Washington and Stella Olesky of Los Angeles, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Lauren and Stephen Olesky, Monica Trabucco, Jeremy Trabucco, Jason Dille, Stephanie Baily and Kevin, Brian and Christine Reese; and two great-grandchildren,
Deceased are two brothers, Walter and Stanley Olesky; and a sister, Eleanor Olesky.
OLESKY - Friends of Steve John Olesky of Washington, who died Thursday, April 1, 2004, will be received from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 5, in Immaculate Conception Church, Washington, with the Rev. William Feeney as celebrant. Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
