Charles Andrew Mass, 85, of Washington, died Friday, November 30, 2007, in Donnell House, following a brief illness.
He was born November 22, 1922, in Monongahela, a son of Anthony and Ann Misevich Mass.
In 1983, Mr. Mass retired from Jessop Steel after 43 years of service.
He was a member of S.O.A. R., Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees, USWA Local 01141, and Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
Mr. Mass enjoyed fishing and traveling to the beach. He constantly helped his neighbors in every way he could.
During World War II, he served as a technical sergeant in the United States Army, 122nd Chemical Processing Company. He fought in battles in Northern France and the Rhineland, earning a Good Conduct Medal and European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars. Mr. Mass was honorably discharged on October 17, 1945.
His wife, Virginia E. Mass survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Charles (Patty) Mass and Daniel (Debbie) Mass, both of Washington; three grandchildren, Danielle (Christopher) Yaquinto, Nicole (Jason) Dalnoky, and Nathan Mass; five great-grandchildren, Noah, twins Leah and Maya, and Ty Joseph Yaquinto, and Landon Dalnoky; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a brother, Joseph Mass; and two sisters, Ann Brenner and Veronica Williams.
Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2007, with Pastor Kurt Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to Donnell House, Hospice Care of the Washington Hospital, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington PA 15301.
