Kenneth Lee Lindley, 83, of Washington, died Saturday, March 10, 2007, in Holy Cross Hospital, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He was born February 27, 1924, in Washington, a son of Lewis and Garnett Fisher Lindley. Mr. Lindley served in the U.S. Army during World War II, spending two years in England and France, and made a landing at Omaha Beach. He received the Good Conduct Medal and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with one bronze star. He was a ladle crane operator at Jessop Steel for 35 years. A member of Friendship Community Church, Mr. Lindley also was a member of Washington Senior Citizen's dartball, Buffalo Grange and Moose Lodge 22. He was a life member of Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175. He formerly enjoyed hunting, bowling and playing golf. His first wife, Teresa Mancina Lindley, to whom he was married for 56 years, died October 1, 1997. On March 17, 1999, he married Phyllis Dayle, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Kenneth Lewis Lindley of Washington and Donald Lee Lindley of Avella; three stepsons, Kevin Flynn of Washington, Brian Flynn of Claysville and Daniel Flynn of Washington; three daughters, Patricia Joann Davis, Garnett Rose Charnesky and Sandra Kay Carr, all of Washington; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Flynn Clapper of New Wilmington; a sister, Shirley De Angelis of Waynesburg; 11 grandchildren, Kenneth Lewis Lindley Jr., Lisa Lindley Myers, David Davis, Kimberly Davis Kostic, Brenda Lee Davis, Robert Charnesky, Christy Charnesky Heffner, Jennifer Charnesky Ashcraft, Breanne Carr, Karen Lindley (Brian) Patterson and Jenny Lindley (Eric) Hoefler; and five stepgrandchildren, Megan Clapper Yocum, Wesley Clapper and Terri, Melissa and Kelsey Flynn. Deceased, in addition to his first wife, is a granddaughter, Teresa Lindley Popam.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15, with Pastor Rick Bruckner and Pastor Floyd Marasco co-officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175.
