James Scott Sharrow

August 10, 1920 — March 11, 2007

James Scott Sharrow of Strabane Woods, Washington PA died on March 11, 2007 after a lengthy illness. Mr. Sharrow was born on August 10, 1920 in Gallatin, PA, the son of James T. and Mable Wragg Sharrow. Mr. Sharrow graduated from Weirton High School in 1939 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WW II. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement during the airborne invasion of Normandy, Southern France and Holland. Due to his supervision of aircraft maintenance his squadron had a high quota of planes in operation at all times. In spite of the fact that the planes were on 24 hour alert and that there was extensive battle damage to repair, not one aircraft was lost or aborted owing to mechanical failure. His squadron received the Presidential Citation for outstanding performance of duty. He left the service as a Warrant Officer. After the war he started a long career in the automobile sales and leasing business. After many years as lease manager at Dormont Oldsmobile he moved to McCracken Oldsmobile. He retired from there in 1986. Mr. Sharrow was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Masonic Order, Shriners, Scottish Rite- Coudersport Consistory, The Washington Elks Club and The Arms Club. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed spending time with his friends. On June 17, 1949 he married Katherine Markell, who died February 11, 1991. On October 17, 1998 he married Isabel Guibert, who died February 21, 2007. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Meg and Harry Steele of Washington, Linda and Randy Scheff of Longwood, FL, J. Scott and Darlene Sharrow of Bridgeville, Audrey and James Rhodes of Pittsburgh and Stanley and Ruth Sharrow of Bridgeville. His grandchildren and their spouses are Dr. Kelly Marsh and Dr. Brian Anderson, Kenneth Marsh, Carrie and Dr. Paul Downey, Meg and Jason Lalli, LTJG, J. Scott Sharrow III, Bryan Scheff, Valerie Scheff, Adam Sharrow, Eric Sharrow, Tracey Sharrow, James Rhodes, Jr., Albert and Kristin Rhodes and Alice Rhodes. His great grandson is Andrew Rhodes. He is also survived by his cousin, Audrey Tarr. Friends will be received 2 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd. 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2007, with Rev. Dan Hrach officiating. Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
