Retired assistant mine foreman at Mathies Mine
Robert Anthony "Red" Risbin, 80, of Washington, died at 5 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2003, in Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
He was born September 8, 1922, in Marianna, a son of Thomas J. and Sarah Quinn Risbin.
Mr. Risbin attended Trinity High School in Washington.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a staff sergeant. He received the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal.
Mr. Risbin was employed as an assistant mine foreman at Mathies Mine for 38 years, retiring in 1981.
He owned and operated Risbin's Bar and Grill for nine years.
Mr. Risbin was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Washington.
He also was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 22, United Mine Workers of America Local 2244, Independent Club, Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175 and BPOE 776.
Mr. Risbin played soccer on a championship team in 1947 and 1948 in the Slovan and Avella areas.
On April 18, 1964, he married Loretta Lucille Gallagher White, who survives.
Also surviving are a stepson, Albert White of Washington; a daughter, Elizabeth Debra Risbin of Washington; three sisters, Beatrice Adams of Philadelphia, and Rita Renner and Madelyn Folkens of Washington; two grandchildren, Jodi Astonia and Jennifer Hawk; and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased are five brothers, Joe, Michael, James, Thomas and John Risbin; and four sisters, Wilma Jean Risbin, Elizabeth Holub, Veronica Crawford and Margaret Serenta.
RISBIN - Friends of Robert Anthony "Red" Risbin of Washington, who died Friday, May 16, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 19. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Full military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175.
