Mary Weltmer, 91, of Washington, died at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2006, following a lengthy illness.
She was born March 1, 1915, in Manifold, Washington County, a daughter of Daniel and Margaret Balog Passo.
During World War II, Mrs. Weltmer served in the Women's Army Corps, earning the American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one bronze service star, Good Conduct Medal, WAC Service Medal and two Overseas Service Bars.
After returning home from the war, she worked as a waitress at Three Star Restaurant in Washington for several years.
Following her marriage, she moved to Pittsburgh with her husband and lived there for 40 years before returning to Washington.
Mrs. Weltmer enjoyed the outdoors and once belonged to a hiking group in North Park.
She was a former member of Immaculate Conception Church in Washington.
On July 9, 1953, she married Dean Weltmer, who died July 18, 1982.
Surviving are a sister, Irene Anderson of Washington; a niece, Judith (James) Yusko and children, Julie and Jay Yusko; two nephews, John (Son-Mi) Anderson and children, Jennifer and JoAnna Anderson, and Master Sgt. Jamie (Barbara) Anderson; and several more nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, Daniel and Jake "Lefty" Passo, and two sisters, Annie Slagle and Verna Dubelle.
Services are private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Allegheny County Memorial Park.
