Bertha Mae Riggs

Member of Grove UP Church, its Kitchen Band. Bertha Mae Riggs, 90, of Weirton, W.Va., formerly of Washington, died at 12:45 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2006, in Weirton Medical Center. She had been in declining health the past six months. She was born October 17, 1915, in Washington, a daughter of William Litle and Bertha Ely McCrerey. Mrs. Riggs was a graduate of Washington High School and an active member of Grove United Presbyterian Church and its Kitchen Band. She had been a waitress at Washington Hospital Hospitality Shoppe. Mrs. Riggs enjoyed yard work, sewing, crocheting, knitting and gardening. On May 6, 1938, she married John William Riggs, who died March 12, 1983. Surviving are a son, William Thomas (Anita) Riggs of Mobile, Ala.; a daughter, Carol Elaine (Ronald) Kohnfelder of Weirton; a brother, William Lloyd McCrerey of Washington; three grandchildren, Vickie Lynn Crain, Richard Allen and William Scott Crain; and two great-grandchildren, Bailey and Hannah Crain. Deceased are four sisters, Rachael Barr, Gladys Beck, Bernice Ashbrook and Frances Bush, and three brothers, Walter, James and Donald McCrerey. Friends and family will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 24, with the Rev. Jack Emerick officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
