WWII vet belonged to American Legion Post 902
John Watson Fischer, 84, of Washington, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, in his home.
He was born June 4, 1920, in Houston, a son of George and Mary Ellen Walker Fischer.
Mr. Fischer served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served in Cuba, China and Japan and received the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He was a member of American Legion Post 902 in Houston.
For more than 34 years, he worked as a shearer in the galvanized department of U.S. Steel Corp.'s Irwin Works.
He was a member of Meadow Lands United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
On September 13, 1938, he married Mary A. Vernon. They were married for 65 years.
Surviving are two sons, John V. Fischer of Washington and Daniel L. Fischer of Milford, N.H.; a daughter, Ann Puchany of Canonsburg; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 14 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Stewart E. and Kenneth F. Fischer.
