Mary Margaret Johnson Laws

Mary Margaret Johnson Laws, 85, of Washington, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, in Washington Hospital. She was born September 16, 1922, in Parkersburg, WV, a daughter of James W. Sr. and Margaret Luthringer Johnson. Mrs. Laws graduated from Washington High School in 1941. She was employed as a telephone operator by Bell of Pennsylvania for 32 years, retiring February 1981. She was a member of The Church of The Covenant, the Morning Circle of the Presbyterian Women’s Association, a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Bell Telephone 10-year Club. On August 9, 1944, in Rochester, PA, she married Carl K. Laws, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Carl R. (Janet) Laws, of Colorado Springs, CO., a daughter, Suzanne C. (James Gibson), of Witchita, KS., five grandsons, Stephen, Kenneth and Jason Laws and Joseph and Thomas Gibson. Preceding him in death, in addition to her parents, were four brothers, James L., Clarence, Wade, and James W. Johnson, Jr., and a sister, Elsie Scarborough. Friends will be received 7 to 9 p., Thursday, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2008, with Rev. David Turner and Rev. Hugh Crawford co-officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
