Margaret R. Hutchinson, 92, of Washington, died at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2005, in her residence, following a lengthy illness.
She was born February 21, 1913, in Moundsville, W.Va., a daughter of John W. and Cora Harsh Riggs.
Mrs. Hutchinson was a graduate of Washington High School and University of Pittsburgh. She taught school for 35 years, first in Canton Township and then in North Allegheny School District, from which she retired. She was a member of Pennsylvania State Education Association, Retired Teachers Association and Washington Teachers Association.
Mrs. Hutchinson was a member of Third United Presbyterian Church, where she was a former elder, AARP and Washington Chapter 409 of Eastern Star. She was former president of Delta Kappa Club at YWCA and former president of Washington Women's Club. Additionally, she was past president of Current Events Club.
On December 16, 1976, she married James Emmett Hutchinson, who died in December 1977.
Surviving are a nephew, Thomas Riggs of Mobile, Ala.; a niece, Carol (Ronald) Kohnfelder of Weirton, W.Va.; a grandniece, Vicki Crain of Pittsburgh; two grandnephews, Richard Crain of Weirton and William Crain of Richmond, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Jane Lemmer of Sun City Center, Fla.; two stepgranddaughters, Mary Lynn Demaschke of Dunellen, N.J., and Judith Smith of Woodstown, N.J.; three stepgreat-granddaughters; and a stepgreat-grandson.
Deceased is a brother, J. William Riggs Jr.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, with the Rev. Leslie Shoup officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
