Merle Edison Kimble, 92, of Washington, died at 5:10 a.m. Monday, February 26, 2007, in Washington County Health Center.
He was born June 30, 1914, near Deep Valley, Greene County, a son of George Wilson and Nette Bell Watters Kimble.
Mr. Kimble was a self-employed farmer and owned and operated Kimble’s Service Station and Luncheon Service.
During the Depression years and until 1941, he worked for the State Highway Department and at Washington Engineers, and during World War II, he served in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Brennan, DE-13.
He was a former member of and former elder at North Buffalo Presbyterian Church, and a present member of Grove United Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Kimble was a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion and former member of Independence Grange #79.
His wife of 67 years, Maxine Sarah Main, whom he married June 30, 1937, died March 2, 2005.
Surviving are a son, Bruce Allen (Judy) Kimble of Claysville; three daughters, Maxine “Betty” (Tom) McKuhn of Weirton, West Virginia, Nancy (Dean) Richmond of Washington, Fran (Bill) Craft of Woodruff, South Carolina, and Kathleen (Carmen) Putorti of Washington; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, George Merle Kimble; a grandchild, Daniel J. DePetro; and two brothers, Bernard A. and Raymond E. Kimble.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional visitation will be held from 1 till 2 p.m., the hour of service, at Grove United Presbyterian Church, West Middletown, with Rev. Jack Emerick officiating. Burial will follow in Independence Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
