Harold Jess Sumney,Sr., 87, of Washington, died at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, February 28, 2007, in the home of his daughter.
He was born November 7, 1919, in Washington County, a son of Hazen M. and Jean V. Rennie Sumney.
During World War II, Mr. Sumney served in the Army Air Force, 263rd BU, from February 5, 1943, till his honorable discharge on February 24, 1946. He earned the American Theater Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Sumney worked for more than 32 years at Jessop Steel Corporation, retiring as a grinder.
He was a member of the Glyde Legion, enjoyed working on lawn mowers, and loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much.
On July 5, 1940, he married Florence Pearl Barnhart, who died November 9, 1986.
Surviving are two sons, Harold Jess (Vicky) Sumney, Jr. of Washington, and Richard D. (Bonnie) Sumney of Chesterton, Indiana; one daughter, Judy (Rudy) Keron of Washington; a sister, Janyce Earl of Gainesville, Georgia; six grandchildren, Cammy Brickner, Jess Dane, Casey and Chance Sumney, Bryan Sumney and Lori Muhr; three step-grandchildren, Carmel Tuttle, Andrea McNeil and Rudy Keron; one great-grandchild, Cassandra Muhr; and four step-great grandchildren, Robbie Ferri, Tyler McNeil, Riley Tuttle, and Caleb McNeil.
Deceased, in addition to his wife, are a sister, Dora Jean Taylor; and a brother, James Sumney.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd.,925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2007. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
