Samuel Love Blevins, Sr.

Samuel Love “Frog” Blevins, Sr., 63, of Washington, died Thursday, June 4, 2009, in the Washington Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born September 14, 1945, in Bessemer, Alabama, a son of Mae Emma Blevins. Mr. Blevins worked as a truck driver for I. Richman and Company for 40 years and also worked at Bookman’s and for the city of Washington. He enjoyed collecting frogs and really enjoyed Snoop Dogg with his Froggy style. Surviving are his former wife, Virginia Rippy of Butler; 11 children, Yolanda Blevins and Reuzpiona Blevins Johnson, both of Alabama, Thana Adams, Mary Carter, Samuel Blevins Jr., Maurice Mitchell, Carmen Tyler Jr., and Edward Washington Jr., all of Washington, Danielle Mitchell and Margie Harriston, both of Pittsburgh, and Mamie Harriston of Detroit, Michigan; several step-children; several bothers, Ted (Charnessa) Moore, Jerry Davis, Melvin Davis, and Pastor Robert (Shirley Gordon Weems) Melodie; 27 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Millicent, Mary, Willie and Tina; and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are a brother, Anderson “Bit” Blevins; two sisters, Jeanette Love (Artie) and Johnnie Mae (James) Taylor; father and mother-in-law, Raymond and Edna Grayson ; and a cousin, Samuel (Deatrice) Davis. Friends will be received Thursday, Noon to 3 p.m., the hour of service, in Friendship Baptist Church, 17 East Walnut Street, Washington, with Rev. Dr. Robert Robinson officiating.
