Mary Sophie Spara Czmiel, 97, of Washington, died Thursday, November 1, 2007, in Washington County Health Center.
She was born June 9, 1910, in Washington, a daughter of Jacob and Josephine Olszanicki Spara.
Mrs. Czmiel worked as a glass decorator for Washington Company and Duncan Miller Glass. She was a member of and very active in Holy Trinity National Catholic Church, where she had served as Secretary-Treasurer of the church and as manager of the pierogi program. She was also a member of the Ladies Adoration Society of Holy Trinity and the Polish Club Auxiliary.
Mrs. Czmiel loved bowling, walking, gardening and cooking, and was an avid football and baseball fan.
On January 10, 1932, she married Paul Anthony Czmiel, who died in 1992.
Surviving are a son, Robert P. (Mary) Czmiel of Washington; one daughter, Phillis C. (Robert A.) Bell of Washington; a brother, Theodore “Ted” (Jackie) Spara of Houston; five grandchildren, William, Kimberly and Kurt Czmiel and Brian and Barre Bell; four great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Edward Spara; and three sisters, Jennie Johns, Charlotte Dugan and Betty Nicolella.
Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2007, in Holy Trinity National Catholic Church, with Bishop John Mack as celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity National Catholic Church Cemetery.
