Robert Kenneth Knestrick

"Decorated Veteran" World War II Robert Kenneth Knestrick, 89, of Washington, died unexpectedly, Sunday, November 11, 2007, in Washington Hospital. He was born November 23, 1917, in Washington, a son of John S. and Regina Marshall Knestrick. Mr. Knestrick entered the U.S. Army, April 8, 1941, serving during World War II, with A Battery 629th Tank Destroyer Battalion, in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe and Battle of the Bulge Campaigns. He received the American Defense Service Medal and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, with 5 Bronze Stars, and was honorably discharged August 3, 1945. Mr. Knestrick joined the plumber's union in 1966 and was a pipe fitter/plumber at Shippingsport Power Plant and also worked at McKean Plumbing. In 1942, he married Evelyn McClelland, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Geraldine McCombs, Barbara Ardeno, and Beverly Hadix, all of Washington; three sisters, Betty Kisner, of Bedford, Mary Mains, of New Jersey, and Helen Munjen, of East Palestine, OH. Deceased are two brothers, Meryle and James. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 15, 2007, with Pastor Edward Woods officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
