James Austin Dille, 84, of Washington, died Thursday, October 25, 2007, in The Washington Hospital. He had been in declining health.
He was born May 27, 1923, in Washington, a son of Harley and Mildred Cole Dille.
Mr. Dille worked for McGraw-Edison for more than thirty years and also worked for Valley Heating/Air Conditioning for six years.
He was a member of Taylorstown Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Dille enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching deer in nature.
During World War II, he served with the United States Army, Company M, 71st Infantry Regiment, 44th Division, in Northern France, Ardennes and Rhineland, where he was taken as a prisoner of war. His awards include the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal with 3 bronze service stars, World War II Victory Medal, Overseas Service Bar, and American Theater Service Medal. Mr. Dille was honorably discharged on December 7, 1945, with a rank of Corporal.
On March 10, 1950, he married Margie Reese, who died August 16, 1993.
Surviving are two daughters, Cathy (John) Meeks and Kim (John) Penn, both of Washington; six brothers, Sam Dille and George Dille, both of Washington, Eli Dille, Church Dille and Stewart Dille, all of Prosperity, and Richard Dille of Virginia; six grandchildren, John (Karly) Meeks, Jr., Kelly Meeks, Chris Meeks, Julie Morgan, Jason Morgan and Nathan Penn; and five great-grandchildren, Chelsea Anderson, Hannah Meeks, Madison Meeks, Erica Huggins, and John Morgan, II.
Deceased are a sister, Arna Mae “Sissy” Dille; and a step-son, John Morgan, Jr.
Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2007, with Pastor Patricia Lutz officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
