James Edward Burk, 86, of Washington, died Thursday, November 8, 2007,
in The Washington Hospital.
He was born September 23, 1921, in East Buffalo Township, a son of John
D. and Charlotte Fife Burk.
During World War II, Mr. Burk served in the army with Company A, 60th
Armored Infantry Battalion, in the European Theater. He was honorably
discharged on October 26, 1945, with a rank of Sergeant.
Mr. Burk worked as a machine operator at Hazel Atlas Glass #2 for 27
years and at Brockway Glass #7 for 13 years.
He was a member of First Christian Church and the Alpine Club, and
member and past commander of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the
American
Legion.
In 1947, he married Effie Jean Caldwell, who died in 1963.
On July 17, 1971, he married Mary Zinko Yuvan, who died July 25, 1981.
Surviving are three sons,James Burk, Jr., David John and Dennis Lee Burk; a step son Frank P. Yuvan; three step daughters, Delores Yuvan, Mary
Lou
White and Donna Shanor; a brother Theodore Burk; one sister, Dora Marie Cornelius; several grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
Deceased are brothers, John, George,Joseph and Robert Burk.
Friends of James Edward Burk, 86, of Washington, who died on Thursday, November 8, 2007, will be received on Friday, from 7 to 9 PM and Saturday from 2 to 3 PM, in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, where services will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2007,at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Military Honors will be accorded by Edwin Scott Linton Post # 175 American Legion.
